The Bolton news understands that the players’ union have personally loaned professional players at the club part of their March wages to ensure they take their field against Nottingham Forest on Sunday and Brentford next week.

We have learned there has yet to be complete agreement within the squad but the club is confident it will be able to fulfil the fixture and avoid major punishments.

A statement from the dressing room read: “The players would like to state their appreciation for the ongoing support of the PFA throughout this difficult period.

“We are especially grateful for the significant financial assistance that was offered and received today.”

The EFL has issued a statement to confirm the Forest game will go ahead at the City Ground but that the board will reschedule the Brentford game on a chosen date before May 9.
